How I Work

One word that best describes how you work: Vigorously. Once I start working I fly through my check-list. I’m good at identifying what needs to be done, how to do it, and then getting it done at a quick but thorough pace.

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Slack, Zoom, Trello, and Evernote. Slack and Zoom keep me connected to my team. Trello and Evernote help me stay on top of my numerous tasks.

What’s your workspace like? Incredibly clean. Nothing elaborate. I need a religiously organized and pristine space to work. If there is too much clutter or random stuff lying around, I find it very hard to concentrate on anything besides the fact that I need to turn the mess around me into some kind of reliable structure.

What’s your best time-saving trick? Prioritize. If I don’t acknoweledge there are some things I need to get done before others, I tend to work on my favorite things to do, rather than what has a quickly approaching deadline.

What’s your favorite to-do list manager? I have a chalkboard calendar on my wall that I keep track of the big, important stuff on, but I love Trello to keep track of what my brain has a hard time keeping organized.

Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without? My wireless headphones. For one, music is life and I love to drown out the chaos of what’s going around me by simply placing earbuds into my ears. Also, I’m a terrible driver, but a lot of the times I need to take phone calls while I’m driving. Being able to speak through my headphones instead of holding a phone keeps my focus on the road where it belongs.

What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? Self-motivation. I excel at talking myself into completing things my checklist says needs to be done, but I don’t exactly feel like doing.

What are you currently reading? I’m currently rereading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and You Are A Badass. If you haven’t read the former book, you’re missing out. The book has given me a new perspective on how to approach work, relationships, and everyday happenings.

What do you listen to while you work? Normally it’s my liked playlist on Spotfiy which consists of EDM, pop, and hip-hop. If a song is too new to me my attention is drawn to the fresh lyrics, but if I know the song my brain fogs out the words and I’m able to work efficiently to the beat.

Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert?

I call myself an extroverted introvert. I draw energy from being alone. I need my alone time to recharge, but I LOVE people. There are moments when I need everyone to give me a wide circumference of space, but solitude for longer than half a day isn't exactly ideal either.

What’s your sleep routine like?

I like to go to bed late (midnight) and get up early. (6:30ish) It was recently brought to my attention that we sleep 30 years of our lives away. If you think about it, it makes sense, but think of all the things I could do with 30 years! In other words, the less sleep I can get while still being my normal, energetic self, the better.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Live as if you were to die tomorrow.

Kind of like the quote, “Live like there is no tomorrow”, but I think the above one kind of dives deeper than that. It's not that the whole world is going to end tomorrow. It's you’re going to be gone; what are others going to think or say about what you did with your life? Are you going to have left a big enough impact in the lives of others, to make your life count?

I believe we’re not guaranteed tomorrow. I want to live like nobody else in the sense of bringing value to the world and I think in order to do that I have to hustle like nobody else. I’m a risk-taker and I’m not afraid of failure. Because of the mindset I hold from that quote, no matter what I’m working at I put my all into it.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Don’t let anyone else define what direction your life should be going in. You are the only one responsible for your happiness, don’t depend on or wait for anyone else to bring it into your life. Take initiative for creating a life that’s meaningful and fulfilling to you.
